Sometimes I luck out with this little part-time blog designer job of mine in that I tend to get to work with the best clients ever. They generally fall into two different categories: those that know exactly what they want and make it easy for me to deliver precisely that, or those that may have a couple of ideas but generally want to leave everything up to me but still then fall in love with whatever I come up with.
Eileen from Sass in the Bluegrass was the latter and I loved creating this new look for her. But what I loved even more was that she fell in love with it immediately.
This is exactly what she said she was looking for in her email back to me after I had sent over my client questionnaire: "I would prefer something clean and simple, with a touch of southern charm, and plenty of navy and gold, maybe some green." But that was honestly the entirety of her wishes besides a picture of a font she liked and the link to her home decor Pinterest board.
So I got to work right away and came up with this inspiration board.
She had a ton of chinoiserie patterned decor on her Pinterest board so I decided to include that as a background on her navbar. I also stuck with navy, gold, and green, as well as used a calligraphy script for part of the logo since that was the theme of the font she had mentioned liking.
Add all of that together and I came up with this design board.
And all of that goodness led to the actual design, which is still simple, yet lightyears ahead of her original layout's look. This is much more grown up and professional looking, while still adding in the fun edge of the patterned navbar and southern charm in the logo.
